Dirty Devil Gravel GranFondo Relay

July 13, 2019

Either Solo or with your team of 2-4 riders, you begin the 186 mile, 9 stage journey at Joe's Valley Reservoir outside Orangeville, Utah in Emery County.  This GranFondo consumes pavement, lots of gravel roads and plenty of dirt roads, you might even have to go through a snow drift or two when you are peddaling at 10,000+ feet.

You and your team will work your way east through Emery County and out into the San Rafael Swell; otherwise known as the Swell.  The next stages take you out of the Swell to the lowest elevation point of 5,384 feet and up and around Price via the Clay Banks. As you descend from Kenilworth into Helper don’t forget to look up and take in the spectacular views of Castle Country’s high desert plateaus.  Now the real work begins as the 6th stage rider goes West up Consumer’s Road and over the mountains into the old coal mining town of Scofield, a 4,695 foot ascent with a peak of 9,580 feet above sea level. Passing off to the 7th stage, your team will gain another 2,684 feet before getting to the cutoff road, Skyline Drive - a dirt road on the ridge line of the Manti La-Sal mountains.  Along this ridgeline, the rider will be able to see both Sanpete/Sevier County to the West and Carbon/Emery County to the East and climb to a top elevation of 10,300 feet. Once you reach the Potter's Pond turnoff, it’s downhill to the last stage which will take you back to Joe's Valley Reservoir via Miller's Flat where your team will be cheering you home and hopefully you beat the sunset.
